Why I actually wrote this
Last summer I set up string lights on my patio, plugged them into a regular indoor power strip because I was in a hurry, and woke up to a very dead, very fried outlet after one thunderstorm. Lesson learned the expensive way. I went down a rabbit hole comparing a couple of "outdoor rated" plugs, and it turned out a lot of them were only rain-resistant, not actually built for direct exposure. I finally landed on an IP66 rated one after a neighbor mentioned it holds up fine even buried in snow all winter. It's honestly been kind of boring since, in the best way, no more sketchy extension cords running through a cracked window, and I can turn the lights on from my phone before I even walk outside.
