What "wireless" actually means. Most dash cams sold as wireless still need a power cable to the 12V socket or fuse box. The term usually refers to built-in Wi-Fi, which lets a phone app preview the view, change settings and download clips without removing the memory card. Read the listing carefully rather than assuming there are no wires to route.
Whether app access matters. Wi-Fi is convenient for saving an incident clip at the roadside or sending it to an insurer. If footage will rarely be reviewed, a built-in screen and a card reader may be enough. App quality matters as much as the hardware, so check that the app is still being updated.
Number of channels. A single front camera covers most collisions ahead. Multi-channel systems add rear, cabin or side views, which help with rear-end impacts, rideshare driving or damage while parked, but they take more installation work and fill storage faster.
Heat tolerance. A windshield camera sits in direct sun. Models powered by a supercapacitor tolerate heat better than those with a lithium battery, which can degrade or swell in a hot cabin.
Image quality and storage. Higher resolution helps read plates but fills cards faster, and loop recording overwrites old footage unless the G-sensor locks a clip. Use a high-endurance card; this guide on choosing a dash cam memory card covers capacity and endurance ratings.
Parking mode. Recording while parked requires constant power, usually through a hardwiring kit with a low-voltage cutoff to protect the car battery.
